Lab-grown diamonds are definitely having a moment — and we’re here for it.
As clients become more and more aware about traditional diamond mining – couples today are looking for ways they can make a change and diamond alternatives have become increasingly popular. Recent studies reveal that the market for lab-grown diamonds increased from 1 percent of the $14 billion rough diamond market in 2016 to an estimated 2 to 3 percent today. That accounts for about $280 million to $420 million in sales.

So what are Lab Grown Diamonds?
Lab grown diamonds are essentially the same genetic make up as earth grown. Each one is grown from a seed of a pre-existing diamond – using a mix of heat and pressure to mimic the the earth’s natural method of diamond creation. They are chemically, visually and physically identical to earth-mined diamonds, but are about 40% less in price and don’t cause any human or environmental harm. Even when using a jewelry loupe, lab grown diamonds are nearly impossible to differentiate from natural diamonds.
It is important to note that lab grown diamonds are not diamond simulants. Diamond simulants, such as cubic zirconia and moissanite, look similar to diamonds but do not share the same genetic make up. Unlike lab grown diamonds, simulants do not have the same chemical and physical properties as natural diamonds hence why they come with much lower price points than lab created diamonds. Simulants can be distinguished from natural or lab grown diamonds using only the naked eye, where as lab grown can only be distinguished by using specialized equipment.
One of the best parts of it all are that Lab created diamonds offer excellent value to consumers. They can cost up to 40% less than traditional earth mined diamonds of similar size and quality.
